GMC CCKW 353 6x6 Expeditionsfahrzeug, 1943
This historic truck was built in 1943 and sold to the Swiss Army after World War II. First registered in Switzerland in 1950. Subsequently, the GMC was in use as a workshop car of the transmission troops until 1989, then 10 vehicles were equipped with this special construction by K + W in Thun for use as workshop cars of the antiaircraft troops. After being rejected by the army, the vehicle was exhibited in a military museum for 15 years, where it was completely restored. Finally, it was acquired by an adventurer, who arranged the conversion to the expedition vehicle with Webasto parking heater, 3'500 Watt generator, solar system, kitchen and sleeping places. After completion, and 120’000 invested Swiss francs, he shipped the GMC for a trip through the United States. Since 2018 the big 6x6 is back in Switzerland. This historic truck was built in 1943 and sold to the Swiss Army after World War II. First registered in Switzerland in 1950. Subsequently, the GMC was in use as a workshop car of the transmission troops until 1989, then 10 vehicles were equipped with this special construction by K + W in Thun for use as workshop cars of the antiaircraft troops. After being rejected by the army, the vehicle was exhibited in a military museum for 15 years, where it was completely restored. Finally, it was acquired by an adventurer, who arranged the conversion to the expedition vehicle with Webasto parking heater, 3'500 Watt generator, solar system, kitchen and sleeping places. After completion, and 120’000 invested Swiss francs, he shipped the GMC for a trip through the United States. Since 2018 the big 6x6 is back in Switzerland.
